I recently signed up for a GeekTime course on English for internet professionals. At the beginning, the instructor introduced the KSA model. It left a strong impression, so I wrote down my thoughts.

KSA (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities framework) is a model of knowledge, skills, and abilities. It explains the difference and relationship between knowledge and skills.

The instructor’s point was that for foreign languages, we should treat them as skills rather than knowledge. That woke me up. In programming, APIs and methods are just knowledge; what we should invest time in learning and mastering is skill. One way to learn skills is imitation and deliberate practice.
