Visiting China–Japan Friendship Hospital

I recently went to China‑Japan Friendship Hospital and hit several procedural pitfalls, ending up with multiple wasted trips. Here’s the process I wish I’d had.

What to bring

  • Medical insurance card for partial reimbursement

    Optional — Alipay/WeChat e‑insurance also works

  • Phone — for ticketing and paying for medication

  • ID card just in case

Full visit flow

  1. Book via WeChat mini‑program “China–Japan Friendship Hospital” or the public account “Beijing 114 Appointment Registration”.
    • I recommend 114 for a better experience.
  2. Go to Outpatient Building B, 2F to get your number from a kiosk.
  3. Go to the department on your ticket → scan to check in → see the doctor.
    • Most clinics require QR check‑in — don’t skip it.
  4. After the visit, nearby kiosks support insurance/mobile payment. If e‑insurance scan fails, try switching between Alipay/WeChat.
  5. Print the invoice.
    • Nice touch: self‑service invoice printers (e.g., on 2F).

Things I found unreasonable

  1. Doctors don’t proactively provide a printed visit record; some hospitals do.

    1. For reimbursement only, use the official mini‑program → Outpatient Services → Information Query → Outpatient Medical Record Query → select patient → view record.

  2. Alipay e‑insurance scan error

Try WeChat e‑insurance. I didn’t bring my card; kiosks showed Alipay e‑insurance but scanning failed. Switching to WeChat e‑insurance worked. The hospital should indicate “e‑insurance” generically, not just “Alipay”.

  3. Restrooms are not clearly marked in the hallways; I had to ask staff in the outpatient building.

Final Thoughts

  1. Every hospital is different — and often frustrating. Research the process to avoid extra trips.
