After spending some time on domestic content platforms, I found the returns were low, and more importantly, content creation is severely restricted. Consequently, I decided to focus on X (formerly Twitter). With Black Friday approaching, it was the perfect time to subscribe to X Premium. Here is the process I followed.
Subscribing via Web
- The price displayed is influenced by your proxy’s location. For example, if I use a US proxy, the price is shown in USD. I happened to catch a “$1 for the first month” promotion, so I went ahead and subscribed.
- X uses Stripe for payments. In my experience, a Visa card issued by China Merchants Bank works perfectly. Note that subscriptions auto-renew, so if you’re just trying it out, remember to cancel in time.
Subscribing via iOS App Store (Low-Price Regions)
Once my first-month promotion expires, I plan to switch to the iOS App Store for the subscription, as prices can be even lower. For example, if your App Store region is set to Turkey, the X app will display prices in Lira. You can subscribe normally from there. However, if you already have an active web subscription, you cannot subscribe via the App Store until the current membership expires.

Beyond the “blue checkmark” status, I believe the real value of X Premium lies in the ability to participate in the Creator Ads Revenue Sharing program. Of course, this requires building a significant following first.

Identity Verification
Revenue sharing now requires identity verification, so I completed this ahead of time:
- Select “United States” as the country.
- Choose “Passport Visa” as the document type.
- Aim the camera at the US visa page of your passport.
- Follow the prompts for a “liveness check” (moving your head left and right).
The verification was successful and quite straightforward.
Final Thoughts
With Premium active and my identity verified, the next step is to consistently manage my X account. Given the size of the Chinese-speaking community on X and the even larger global English audience, investing time here feels much more rewarding than on domestic platforms. Time to get to work!
